Getting out of the DIRTY.

The Beginning: NJ to NC

To start off in good ole Montgomery, NJ. Where the Soccer moms are MILFs and bagel barn is where you will see everyone that has ever lived in this town. It's all I've ever known. I've never moved in my life and Monty is very much so a bubble of mic-mansions and high standardized test scores.

Camera: So to begin this trip, I realized I need a camera, and not just any type of camera. I've been playing with the idea of getting an SLR for a long time and this summer just gives me even more of an excuse to get one. I want a 60D but that would make my wallet cry. So I'm looking at Cannon Rebels but it still upsets my wallet. So my dad is lending me his old Fuji not exactly an SLR but it'll do. Today I got my first crash course in photo from the best teacher around, my dad. I am so ready to play around with this fuji now.

Schools: A big part of this summer is to visit different schools. I am not the happiest at Rowan, I could make it work but I want to see what else is out there for me. I am looking for small sustainable schools with a good psychology and art department. If there is one thing I have learned, that is that networking is key to figuring out what you want to do in life and eventually landing a job. I feel as though Rowan doesn't have these networks, at least not in the departments I'm interested in. I'm looking for a school with a community. Where the professor knows your name and actually cares if you come to class let alone if your even awake. I'm looking to visit: Warren Wilson, Appalachian state, and maybe Elon in NC.

Packing: I have never packed so quickly in one day before. I hope I have everything. I told the lady at the EMS store I was leaving tonight and she looked me in the eye with a little concern and wished me luck haha. One thing I want to experience on this trip is lack of material objects and indirectly minimize my carbon footprint.

I have a bad craving for material objects, I am known to hoard a lot of things. Because I packed so last minute I was almost ready to just leave half way through packing because I grew so tired of trying to think of what I need. In the book, "Into the Wild", The main character picks up a few material objects and heads out West just to abandon his car in the dessert with the objects he brought with him and burning all of his money, after donating most of it to a charity. I wish I could be that hard core about this but hitch hiking to NC might just make me miss my plane for Mexico...

So Heather and I are leaving tonight around 8:00pm and planning on arriving in NC around 5:00am.

Wish us luck!! and feel free to message me with any advice or places we should visit in NC!

  1. Do you have a place to crash in NC? I have some people in my network that could let you use a couch or floor, or you can do the couchsurfing.com thing...I would go back to all the campsites mom and dad used to take us to. I remember there was one with all these eucalyptus trees that I LOVED because of the smell even though it had alot of trailers and few tents...
